The Poisoner

By I.V. Ophelia

Amidst the gaslit alleys and cobblestone streets of Victorian London, two killers find themselves entangled in a waltz they cannot escape.

Alina Lis, a botanist and hobbyist poisoner, has a pastime of killing unsavory men in her twisted sense of poetic justice. When she targets the conceited playboy, Silas Forbes, only to find him in her apothecary the following week, she discovers human men are the least of her problems.

The pair’s unlikely association sparks gossip among affluent society. As their mysterious bond deepens, a chilling truth emerges—concealed identities, lurking foes, and questions as plentiful as the hydra’s head brew within this haunting Gothic tale of violent passion.

Will Silas and Alina find themselves in each other's arms, or will the shadows of their past keep them apart?

The Poisoner is BOOK ONE of a planned series of THREE BOOKS and a few STANDALONES

Praise for ‘The Poisoner’

  • ★★★★★

“If you’re at all interested in the “Gothic” as a category of literature (or of expression in general), you’ll recognize the powerful thematic elements Ophelia experiments with. They dabble in matters of class, femininity, fashion, the academy and the animal, and leave you with an urge to research further or read the book again.” — Camille Kolo, Goodreads.

  • ★★★★★

“The Victorian London setting heightens the gothic atmosphere and the sense of Alina's misplacement in the world as a woman driven by her intellect and curiosity.” — Nikki, Goodreads.

  • ★★★★★

“All the pieces just slide into place- twisting and turning what you thought you knew about them.” — Samantha Lynn, Goodreads.

  • ★★★★★

“…suspect a satisfying, neat, little love story before Ophelia throws you to your knees and makes you beg for whatever their dramatic, alluring and oft times grotesque book is willing to give you.” — Camille Kolo, Goodreads.

  • ★★★★★

“This is precisely the type of book that whisks you out of a reading slump, only to plunge you right back in” — Sophie, Goodreads.

All can be accessed through Amazon and major online retailers such as Barnes and Noble.

  • This is an ADULT novel, it is not suited for anyone under the age of 18.

This book will primarily be GOTHIC DARK ROMANCE

For those who are unfamiliar, gothic literature is supposed to touch on dark, taboo subjects while mixing pleasure and terror. Often there is deep symbolism, heavy foreshadowing, and double meanings that reveal themselves later.

Dark romances usually involve some disturbing topics and often toe the line regarding explicit consent. If rough, dark, and troubled dynamics are not your thing, then thats okay! Your mental health is important and I always recommend reading the author note in the beginning for any trigger warnings. It is also worth mentioning that this is designed to be an erotica, which is strictly for sexual fantasy and not meant to reflect realistic or healthy relationships.

Secondary genres include SCIENCE FICTION and HORROR/SUSPENSE.

Both go hand in hand in this book to create some unique takes on what particular supernatural creatures could be! The nature of these creatures is horrifying, uncomfortable, and unusual.

  • This is a Gothic Romance and includes explicit sexual scenes. The book also has elements of horror and mystery, which means there may be descriptions of violence, gore, and blood. These characters may take part in consuming substances that are inappropriate and should not be repeated. Some scenes include light BDSM, which in reality would be performed by experienced partners who have had extensive conversations about trust, consent, and boundaries. There is a discussion of sexual assault and an on-page non-con scene. Not all actions in this book were made for sexual gratification and should not serve as a reference for healthy or realistic sexual and emotional relationships. If you are sensitive to sexual assault, please enter Chapter 48 cautiously.

As always, depiction is not endorsement.
